A method of operating a data communications network comprising a server in communication with a plurality of user devices, the method including: monitoring competitive gameplay conducted between two or more players; identifying an individual move or a set of moves made during the gameplay; determining, using a computer-implemented model, a number of points attributable to the move or set of moves, wherein the determination is made with reference to one or more of the game piece involved, a strategic value of the move, an allocation of a resource, and a prediction concerning a resource; causing the points to be displayed on a user device following the move; and resolving an outcome of the gameplay and any applicable reallocation of points or resources.

Plain-English interpretation

A networked game server watches a competitive game, isolates each move as an event, runs that event through a scoring model that can take account of the piece, how strong the move was, what resource is attached to it and any prediction about that resource, shows the resulting points to the player straight after the move, and then settles up at the end of the game.
